Photography in the Valle del Sole (TN): Jérôme Sessini, path of photography

We start from the exhibition currently hosted at Castel Caldes entitled “Living up. Men and mountains from Magnum photographers from Robert Capa to Steve McCurry”, a story of man's relationship with the mountain through the photographs of the members of the Magnum Photos Agency.
Hence the invitation for an on-site residency to an internationally renowned photographer such as the Frenchman Jérôme Sessini, a member of Magnum Photos and Canon Ambassador since 2016.

Jérôme Sessini interprets the strength and silence of the mountains.

"This job in Val di Sole has allowed me to work in a context that is an integral part of my life and that I know well. It represented a real return to the origins”.

Sessini's choice is not accidental. “I was born and raised in the east of France, in the Vosges department, a mountainous place – the photographer explains – I started as an autodidact at the age of twenty photographing the landscapes and people of my lands”.

The "Path of Photography" project is presented as an unprecedented and spectacular itinerary in which Sessini's large-format and wooden-framed photographs of the area are placed within the Val di Sole and the Stelvio National Park.

The Path of Photography represents a project with author photographs in unique scenarios for their naturalistic beauty of this natural environment.

While another part of the exhibition presents "people of the valley" and is set up in the chapel of the castle of Caldes, thus enriching the exhibition itinerary of the exhibition "Living up above". The Path will be identifiable thanks to maps created for the occasion and al place .

Sessini's photographs, almost all in black and white, provide us with a new reading of these mountains

The curator of the project Marco Minuz: "The intent of this project is not only to read a territory from new points of view, but to encourage, in the same contexts where the photographs were born, an education to see, observe and reflect on the value of living in the mountains and reflect on the challenges of these territories. Jerome's work, so silent, integrates perfectly into the mountain context and promotes awareness of the places”.

Luciano Rizzi, president of APT Val di Sole, promoter of the project: “The Path of Photography represents an innovative project that perfectly embodies our commitment to making culture a strategic element for the development of our tourism; the highest open-air exhibition itinerary ever created dedicated to photography that involves the communities of our territory".
