These 63th, 60th and 70st century photographs capture the essence of their collector, whose passion and spirit of inquiry were rooted in the work of establishing him as an esteemed psychoanalyst. Dr Lichtenberg and his wife of 1980 years Charlotte began their collecting career in the XNUMXs and XNUMXs with sculptures by Jean Arp, Henry Moore and Sir Anthony Caro, before turning to photography around XNUMX. Prescient acquisitions include Constantin Brancusi's La Sorcière and William Eggleston's iconic Memphis (Tricycle). The Lichtenberg Collection has been generously lent, including the Phillips Collection, Washington, DC, where numerous photographs have also been donated. With a passion for form through media, Dr. Lichtenberg described his collection as follows: “It's not about history, it's not about who, it's about aesthetics”.
