Photography: Cinecittà with photos of Steve McCurry's American

The first meeting between Steve McCurry e Cinecittà it happened a few years ago and it was love at first sight. Among the sets and warehouses of the city of cinema, his lens has captured new suggestions, enriching his search for a surreal flavour. Known all over the world for his sensational portraits and reportages that he made in some of the most difficult countries on the planet, McCurry had in fact oriented his sensitivity to other perspectives as well, broadening the horizon of his research towards an almost metaphysical dimension of space and of the humanity that crosses it or suspends it with its absence.

Precisely starting from the photos taken at Cinecittà, McCurry's new exhibition presents the public with his most recent works and a series of shots that are linked to this surprising research, which goes beyond the gaze, which passes through doors and windows to tell space and light, to overcome pain and fear. With over 150 large-format images, the exhibition develops around this research, even if there are also some of his best-known images on display.

A new exhibition could only be matched by a completely new set-up, specially designed by Peter Bottazzi to accompany the visitor into the world of McCurry and created in Theater 1, next to the buildings that host “Cinecittà shows itself”, a permanent tour dedicated to cinema and the history of Cinecittà, which has already garnered great interest from the Italian and international public.

In addition to presenting an original selection of Steve McCurry's photographic production, the exhibition, curated by Biba Giaccatti and Peter Bottazzi, intends to tell the adventure of his life and his profession, also thanks to a series of videos built around the "maxims" in which he condensed his extraordinary experience and his conception of photography. To follow the red thread of his passions, to get to know his technique but also his desire to share proximity to suffering and sometimes to war, with joy and surprise.

An audio guide, with the artist's voice narrating his photos in the first person, will be available to visitors to the exhibition, who will also be offered 6 videos dedicated to travel and Steve McCurry's way of conceiving photography.

With this exhibition, the new exhibition space "il Teatro1 di Cinecittà" was born in Rome. The historic building is inserted in the context of Cinecittà si Mostra, which already offers the Italian and international public a journey through the history of cinema and into the "dream factory" dear to Fellini. Maintaining its equipment but modifying its original function, Teatro1 will propose a program of temporary exhibitions dedicated to the culture of the image in its most varied expressions, from photography to cinema, from design to entertainment.

On the initiative of Cine District Entertainment and Civita Cultura, which are now part of the new IEN - Italian Entertainment Network, the city of Rome is enriched with a new space for exhibitions, with a very distinctive vocation consistent with its location at the inside Cinecittà, in that part which, alongside film production, welcomes the public with a qualified, continuous and increasingly dynamic cultural offer.
