Photography in New York, an impressive collection up for auction

A visionary innovator in the creative development of beauty products and the haircolor industry, Leland Hirsch has marked his career and his collection with a quest for “what should be but isn't”.

Indeed, the suggestive collection reflects a unique vision towards the contradictions of life, as evidenced by the works: Bras (Arm) by the surrealist Man Ray (estimate $80/120,000), the iconic Dovima with Elephants, Evening Dress by Dior, Cirque d' Hiver, Paris, August 1955 by Richard Avedon (estimate $300/500,000) or the shot Child with a Toy Hand Grenade in Central Park, NYC by Diane Arbus (estimate $70/100,000).

Choice of editorial images such as Irving Penn's Issey Miyake Design with Black Fan (estimate $15/25,000), the iconic Stephanie, Cindy, Christy, Tatjana, Naomi, Hollywood by Herb Ritts (estimate $50/70,000) or Steven's Madonna Hitching Meisel (estimate $5/7,000) are the result of decades of work with leading photographers, models and beauty editors from the 70s to the 90s, including Shirley Lord and Dorothy Schefer (Vogue), Felicia Milewicz (Mademoiselle and Glamour) and many more.

Leland Hirsch stated: “When you look at photography from the point of view of the collector, there is always a personal fluid between the collector ego and the photographer. I am drawn to vivid and emotional images that tell a special story.”
