Fortune Global 500: Generali first Italian

There are six (seven counting Exor, which however is Dutch as an FCA group) of the Italian companies present in the Fortune Global 500 this year, Fortune.com's ranking of the world's largest companies, sorted by revenue. Therefore, net of the financial company of the Agnelli family which would be in first place among the Italian companies, the one positioned higher is Assicurazioni Generali, ahead of Enel, Eni, Intesa Sanpaolo, Unicredit and Poste Italiane. The Trieste Lion ranked 66th, up sharply from 92nd in 2018: the revenues of the group led by Philippe Donnet rose to $105,9 billion, an increase of 20,1%.

Then, there is Enel, stable: the Italian energy giant moved from 89th to 87th in the standings, with revenues of 89,9 billion dollars and an increase of 0,7%. If Enel's business grows, that of Eni in 2019 (before, therefore, this year's oil price crisis) it plummets: the group led by Claudio Descalzi drops to position 113 from number 83. Thirty positions lost which are equivalent to a 12,4% drop in revenues , which totaled $79,5 billion.

More detached, there are three other Italian giants: Intesa Sanpaolo, which however - it should be remembered - has just become much larger with the takeover bid on Ubi, in 2019 it collected revenues of 40,3 billion dollars. An increase of 3,4% that earned her the move from 315 to 310 in the standings. It also grows Italian post, which stops at position number 350 from 355: revenues amounted to 36,6 billion dollars, an increase of 4,6%. Last of the Italians it is Unicredit: fell to position 469 from 425, losing 7,4% of revenues compared to 2018, for a total of 27,1 billion dollars.
