Fornero: "It's true, wages should be raised"

The government does not "want to precarious anyone". It's clear that "wages should be raised, because they are low and it is not something that escapes us. We know the income distribution gap that has grown over the past 15 to 20 years. My sensitivity is total, after which things have to be changed". With these words the Minister of Labour, Elsa Fornero, returned today to the thorniest topic of the last few days: labor reform, with annexed (possible) amendments to article 18 of the Workers' Statute (the one that prohibits dismissals without just cause).

“On my part there is full availability – continued Fornero – but there must be no foreclosures of any kind. Things have to change." The minister thus replied to the challenge that had been launched by her shortly before Raffaele Bonanni, leader of the CISL: "I challenge you to discuss how to raise the wages of flexible workers and how the government should provide fiscal and other incentives for this possibility, this means meeting young people".

After the approval of the budget package, work will be one of the priorities on the agenda of the so-called "phase two" of the executive. In an interview published on Sunday in Corriere della Sera, the minister had urged that article 18 not be considered a "totem". union reaction it was immediate and angry.
