Fornero with a hard face against the INPS: top management to change

Elsa Fornero is unleashed against INPS. "If we were in a private sector this would be a reason to reconsider the top management. We are in a public sector, there are laws and there is a parliament and all these procedures must be respected”. Thus the Minister of Labor replied to those who asked her if the INPS leaders should resign later the leak which has sparked a new controversy over the number of exodates.

“I'm just saying that, I already said it yesterday, some documents have come out that are partial, that contain partial and unexplained numbers. This is never a good thing – added Fornero -. I never wanted to say that numbers shouldn't be given. I'm just saying that those are partial and not interpreted and, therefore, giving numbers like this on issues that interest many Italians is really improper".

Yesterday Ansa released the report sent by INPS to the ministry before the signing of the decree which set the quota of the so-called "safeguarded" at 65 thousand, the only ones who will be allowed to retire with the old requirements in 2012 and in 2013. The text reads that – according to the rules passed with the save-Italy and Milleproroghe decrees launched last winter – the army of exodates has about 390.200 people. Then the hasty attempts at denial by the Institute were useless.

For the minister it was "a serious episode. I allow myself to say that it is serious. I fully reiterate the communiqué that the Minister of Economy and the Minister of Labor had written on the occasion of the decree law on the 65 thousand, for which the funds had been prepared”.

Fornero also reiterated "the serious intention of the government with respect to a problem that exists, but whose exact dimension is not contained in those numbers". The minister then cited an example: “More than 60 of those people are already retired or will retire this year. And therefore the numbers must be given when they are fully known and I am not aware that the INPS, which I have been asking for months to give me correct and not partial numbers, has solutions that can be explained to the public ".
