Ford: 24 layoffs and goodbye to the Mondeo

The cuts should especially affect the European plants – Spain and Germany among the most affected countries – In addition to the Mondeo, Ford could also decide to stop the C-Max, S-Max and Galaxy.

An internal revolution which, as per tradition, will cost dearly especially to the employees. Ford launches a "deep and fundamental" restructuring plan which would also include 24 layoffs. The American automaker is preparing to cut 12% of its global workforce. The news was reported by various British newspapers, while the official announcement should arrive in the coming months.

According to rumors, European workers, German and Spanish in primis, but also the British, will pay the highest price. Overall, the cost of restructuring the European business is expected to be close to $11 billion.

From 2020, the reduction in personnel will also be followed by the farewell to four historical models of the group such as Mondeo, C-Max, S-Max and Galaxy. A Ford spokesman told the Telegraph that while the Mondeo market is slowing, it "remains a key part of our product lineup in Europe."

The internal revolution will also affect production: at the beginning of the year, Ford announced its intention not to develop new sedans, thus focusing on SUVs and compact cars. Furthermore, over the next three years, further cuts will affect key sectors such as engineering, marketing, and sales. In total, the Detroit auto giant expects savings of about $25,5 billion.
