The Milan prosecutor's office has closed the investigation into the so-called "papello" delivered at the time by the former head of Fonsai, Salvatore Ligresti, to the CEO of Mediobanca, Alberto Nagel, warning the two that they are under investigation because they "knowingly obstructed the supervision of Consob".
The papello contained the requests made by the Ligresti family to leave Premafin and facilitate the merger between Fonsai and Unipol, which was close to Mediobanca's heart: Nagel would have acknowledged it by handing it over to the secretary of the Mediobanca pact, Cristina Rossello.
According to Public Prosecutor Luigi Orsi, the two "knowingly obstructed Consob's supervisory function with reference to the existence and circumstances of the negotiation between Mediobanca and the Ligresti family aimed at regulating the Ligrestis' exit from the Premafin/Fondiaria-Sai group" . The agreement expressed in the papello, according to Orsi, "was not communicated to market surveillance and indeed was kept hidden by delivery to the lawyer Rossello".
