Mps Foundation: the president's puzzle. The meeting of the top management for the appointment started today

We need 11 votes. Today at the current meeting of the general deputation of the MPS Foundation we go to the new count to appoint president and deputation administrator. All 14 councilors are present but the road is uphill and, until a few hours before the start of the meeting, it was possible to go beyond the Palio on the agenda for 16 August. An all-out meeting that must try to dissolve the impasse that has arisen after the resignation of Antonella Mansi announced on 17 May and now effective from 1 August. On 29 July the 14 councilors had in fact split over the names and methods of the election, deciding then to reconvene on 22 August. But after three months of unsuccessful attempts on the nomination, the Treasury has requested an advance of the times and the deputation has been reconvened for today. The risk, if a solution is not yet found, is that Via Venti Settembre decides to place the institution under commission.

Today's meeting is chaired by senior deputy Riccardo Campa and sees on the table the names of two presidential candidates: the professor of administrative law at Luiss Marcello Clarich, appreciated by the mayor of Siena Bruno Valentini (who appoints 5 members), and the professor of business economics and current member of the general management Bettina Campedelli. “Siena is always unpredictable”, the latter commented as she entered Palazzo Sansedoni to journalists who asked her what she expected for the meeting of the general deputation called to appoint the new leaders. But time has now run out in Siena and the city must decide whether it wants to remain hostage to political lobbies or capitalize on the work done in the last year by Antonella Mansi who managed to bring two South American investors to Siena, the Mexican Fintech fund (4,5, 2% of the capital) and the Brazilian investment bank Btg Pactual 9% (which together with the Foundation have entered into a syndicate pact on XNUMX% of the capital) and to get the Foundation back on track, now given up for dead after the events that overwhelmed the mps. The impasse certainly cannot fail to irritate the international investors who contributed to the success of the Monte dei Paschi capital increase.

The signals arriving in the afternoon, however, open up to a possible white smoke. “The mediation is ongoing hopefully in a conclusion. There is a majority candidate and a minority candidate”, revealed councilor Vareno Cucini referring to Marcello Clarich. "We are here to elect" underlined the councilor Sergio Betti, who had opposed the line of the mayor of Siena and together with the councilor Alessandra Navarri had convened a press conference criticizing the method of burying the candidacy of Bettina Campedelli, professor of economics in Verona and considered a break from Mansi. In the meantime, the market is not waiting: on the Mps Stock Exchange, suspended downwards, it yields 2,76%.
