The continuation of the crisis that has hit Italy stops the migratory flows towards Italy. This is the main result of the XVIII National report on migration 2012, prepared by the Ismu Foundation (Initiatives and studies on multi-ethnicity) and presented yesterday in a conference moderated by the journalist Francesca Padula of Il Sole 24 Ore.
In fact, the Ismu reports the zero growth of the foreign presence in our country, on January 2012st XNUMX, with a increase of only 27 thousand units compared to the previous year, equal to a percentage of 0,5%. A figure that represents a real drop compared to previous years (especially in the two-year period 2008-2009), when there were annual increases of 500 thousand units. The total number of immigrants present in Italy, therefore, now stands at 5 million 430 thousand people, against 5 million 403 thousand at the beginning of 2011.
The main reason for this slowdown lies, as mentioned, in the persistence of the Italian and European economic crisis. The reality of the logical decrease in emigrations to Italy, especially those for work reasons, acts as a counterpart the increase in outflows of Italian citizens: throughout 2011, in fact, there were 50 Italians who emigrated abroad, up 9% on the previous year, joining a contingent that now numbers more than 4,2 million compatriots abroad .
The most numerous nationality, among the legal immigrants present on Italian soil, is the Rumanian one, which exceeds one million units, followed by the Moroccan one and the Albanian one. The count of illegal immigrants decreases (-26% to 326 thousand units), while the unemployment rate among foreigners increases by half a percentage point.
They increase non-EU minors who pass from 21,5% to 23,9%. Above all, the presence of minors born in our country is constantly growing, reaching around 500 thousand, and which will contribute to an even greater increase, despite the sharp slowdown in flows, of the presence of foreigners on Italian soil between 2012 and 2041, and their incidence on the population, which would rise to a percentage of 18%, thanks to an estimated increase of 6 million units.
