SCI-ART: FREE SUMMER SCHOOL BETWEEN ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, GENERATIVE ART AND VIRTUAL REALITY

In preparation for the next U-Mano Art and Science exhibition scheduled in the Opificio's Arts and Sciences pavilion, the Golinelli Foundation is offering 40 third, fourth and fifth year secondary school students the opportunity to participate for free in two a week-long summer school dedicated to the development of innovative artistic/technological exhibits between art, science and technology. The works created by the participants will become part of the exhibition itinerary.

The two proposed summer schools are the following.

THE ART WALL: CONSTRUCTION OF A ROBOTIC WALL FOR THE GENERATIVE REPRODUCTION OF IMAGES (from 2 to 6 September): a path that will start from the historical and investigative analysis of an important fresco by Leonardo da Vinci, which was never actually created due to some technical evaluations incorrect by the author. The goal will be to rematerialize the work on the basis of digital information automatically retrieved by an artificial intelligence. Participants will then proceed with the creation and installation of an imposing wall of about 60 square meters, on which they will be asked to reconstruct the fresco with the help of plotting technologies, artificial intelligence and generative art. The path will be guided by art history experts, software developers and makers involved in the development of Scribit, an innovative wall plotter capable of reproducing images on very large vertical surfaces. With the patronage of the Regional School Office for Emilia and Romagna.

· VIRTUAL REALITY: CREATION OF IMMERSIVE AND INTERACTIVE EXPERIENCES BETWEEN ART AND TECHNOLOGY (from 9 to 13 September): a path in which the participants will start from the artistic imagery of some of Leonardo da Vinci's pictorial works to create interactive play experiences in virtual reality that can be used through Oculus headsets. The guidance of the course will be entrusted to internationally renowned professional video game designers and 3D artists and will be focused on experience design and development on Unity, one of the best known and most widespread game engines, used by video game creators all over the world. With the patronage of the Regional School Office for Emilia and Romagna.

“EX3” EXHIBITION, BY ANDREA GALVANI AND ANDREA NACCIARRITI

As part of the initiatives of the Arts and Sciences, the Golinelli Foundation hosts the exhibition "EX3", a double site-specific solo show by Andrea Galvani and Andrea Nacciarriti between contemporary art and scientific research. The curatorship is by Carmen Lorenzetti and the exhibition is promoted by the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna. The project, now in its third edition, is dedicated to former students of the Bologna Academy who have become internationally recognized artists. The protagonists of this year are Andrea Galvani and Andrea Nacciarriti with their works on the border between art and science.

Andrea Galvani, who has been collaborating for years with scientists and scientific institutions worldwide, offers a selection of his most recent work entitled Instruments for Inquiring into the Wind and the Shaking Earth. His installation is composed of an intricate series of neon sculptures, designed to interact with the architectural space and the public, which acquire their shape thanks to mathematical equations. At Opificio Golinelli the artist presents a selection of ten sculptures suspended several meters in height along the corridor of the main architectural body which accompany visitors as they pass through the entrance to the Foundation, illuminating the space and intrinsically indicating the important role of bridge between art, science and technology, which is the very mission of the Foundation and of the activity of the Arts and Sciences Area in a vision oriented towards the future of research.

Andrea Nacciarriti instead proposes Sleeping Time, a reinterpretation of a work exhibited in 2007 at the Franco Soffiantino gallery in Turin. The artist proposes the work 30 00 30 00 00 [hold on please], made up of a wooden package, a container that can be used to store works of art and which recalls works of institutional criticism such as Marcel's fictitious museum Broodthaers, to which he applied an electronic countdown which marks the countdown in days, hours, minutes, seconds and hundredths of a second, until the end of the exhibition. The work, placed in a secluded place that the viewer must discover, opposes the contemporary media codes of exposure and spectacularity and indicates a time interval that creeps between the before and after of its being there as a trace of an event among those that make up the calendar of the Foundation.

The exhibition will open on 18 June at 17,30pm in the presence of the artists and will be open from Monday to Friday from 9 to 18. The opening will be attended by Sergio Bertolucci, particle physicist, professor at the University of Nuclear Physics of Bologna and Director of research and scientific calculation at CERN. Free entry.
