Golinelli Foundation: biodiversity and research at Expo Milano

The Golinelli Foundation participates in Expo Milano 2015 with the project "Culture feeds the planet" in the context of "ExplorER - Food for life food for mind", the small square of the Emilia-Romagna Region. A model, installations and videos present Opificio Golinelli, the knowledge and culture center of the Golinelli Foundation which opens to the public on 3 October, and the art and science exhibition which will be at MAMbo - Museum of Modern Art in Bologna from 18 September to November 22, entitled "Degrees of freedom". From Monday 31 August to Wednesday 2 September some examples of edutainment activities will be shown which, starting from typical food products of the region, are an opportunity to talk about scientific-technological research and development, biodiversity, quality, gastronomic innovation, food, science and culture (activities that can be used permanently at Opificio Golinelli). On 2 September, at 17.30, Marino Golinelli and Antonio Danieli, president and director of the Golinelli Foundation, illustrate the activities of the Foundation and Opificio Golinelli.

Discover biodiversity by playing science

The video and the installation show the laboratory that the Golinelli Foundation offers to the public of all ages to discover how the study of biodiversity also involves the use of a typical local product such as the potato. With the help of an optical microscope, the slides of the exhibited specimens will be observed and the potato varieties will be recognised.

Biotechnology to study plant variety

The video and the installation summarize one of the laboratories that the Golinelli Foundation offers to students and teachers of secondary schools to raise awareness of the basics and applications of genetic research. The public will be able to retrace, through DNA analysis, the steps necessary to carry out a genetic test by comparing different varieties of pear, a typical fruit of the Emilia-Romagna region.
