Cariplo Foundation, 12 million to fight poverty in Milan

On the occasion of the event for its 25th anniversary, the main Italian philanthropic institution, one of the largest in Europe, launched a plan to combat child poverty in the Milan area. Giuseppe Guzzetti, president of Fondazione Cariplo, declared: "it is an important project with which the Foundation intends to present itself to the community in the role of innovator and social activator"

Cariplo Foundation – Savings Bank Foundation of the Lombardy Provinces – has launched a comprehensive plan to combat child poverty in the metropolitan area of ​​Milan, already equipped with 12 million euro, which adds to the already extensive program of commitment in this field which sees it as a protagonist in the financing of the Fund for the Contrast of Child Poverty. 

The project was presented during the meeting entitled “A commitment to serve the real country”, organized in Milan on December 16 for celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Cariplo Foundation. The meeting was attended, among others, by Romano Prodi, Anna Scavuzzo, deputy mayor of Milan, Angelo Scola, archbishop of Milan, Mario Calabresi, director of la Repubblica, Luciano Fontana, director of Corriere della Sera, Catia Bastioli, Novamont managing director and president Triad

“It is an important project – said Giuseppe Guzzetti, president of the Cariplo Foundation – by which our Foundation intends present himself once again to his community in his role as a real innovator and social activator. Milan is a city that lives one profound contradiction: on the one hand energetic and lively, engine and beating heart of Lombardy and in some ways of the whole of Italy, on the other metropolis where they survive, as Caritas points out, 13 children who do not have enough food to feed themselves. Fondazione Cariplo intends to break this chain that keeps children and families imprisoned, through a plan that it has endowed with 12 million euros to be finalized over the next three years and which should mobilize at least as many resources from companies and citizens".

Fondazione Cariplo is the private, non-profit organization with philanthropic purposes, deriving from the historic Cassa di Risparmio delle Provincie Lombarde, established in Milan on 12 June 1823. Today, Fondazione Cariplo represents one of the most important entities on the philanthropy front, committed to stimulating and support the projects of non-profit organizations operating in the four chosen institutional sectors: personal services, art and culture, scientific research, environment.
