According to the International Monetary Fund, seriously threatens to increase the scope of deleveraging operations implemented by European banks, which, driven by the tightening of EU regulations, are discontinuing many activities.
With reference to the period between the third quarter of 2011 and the end of 2014, the Global Financial Stability Report has calculated that credit assets demobilized for an amount of 2.800 billion euros, equal to 7,3% of total assets, a figure approximately 200 billion higher than expected six months ago.
In the estimates made by the IMF, however, there are also two other scenarios: a pessimistic one, in which the divestitures would reach 4.500 billion euro, if the recovery plan fails, and a more optimistic one, in which the the amount of divestments would not exceed 2.300 billion euros, thanks above all to the impact of the ECB's initiatives.
