Fitch: “Average Italian banks will need capital increases”

Medium-sized Italian institutions may need to new capital increases. This is the diagnosis of Fitch following the publication of Bankitalia's analysis on banking groups: "Medium-sized Italian banks will probably have to raise new capital in the short-medium term to offset the pressures on their capital base deriving from difficult operating conditions".

The issues of securities already announced, for example by Banca Popolare di Milano and Banca Popolare di Vicenza, may not be enough. According to Fitch, in fact, operations of this kind risk not determining an upgrade of the rating due to the deterioration of the quality of the assets.
