Taxman, Salvini furious opens up to Di Maio but fixes the counterparts

The level of the clash between the two government allies, the League and the M5S, rises. And while tension is skyrocketing, the ground is already being prepared for the next majority summit which will precede the council of ministers convened by Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte at Palazzo Chigi on Saturday morning.

"If the problem is political, the solution will have to be political," Deputy Prime Minister Luigi Di Maio anticipated on Thursday, when it was now clear to everyone that the "little hand" that would have changed the text of the tax decree was nothing more than an invention. AND Matteo Salvini, from his electoral tour in Trentino where we vote on Sunday, leaks all his anger and warns: “I will hear everyone, but I am starting to get angry, because in that Council of Ministers Conte read and Di Maio wrote. If they didn't understand, if they changed their mind, if they started arguing – he repeated – it's their problem. It cannot be the government that is affected by the mood swings of the Cinquestelle or the distractions of the 5 stars. We – he continues – are reasonable people. If the 5 stars have changed their mind, just say so. If Fico and Di Maio have changed their minds, just say it, we are here. If the spread reaches 350 because they are arguing, it's a problem. I'm going to Rome tomorrow, serene, we rewrite and reread everything, but, I repeat, the truth is that Conte read and Di Maio wrote in that Council of Ministers ".

THE PRICE OF THE AGREEMENT

If you have grillini it doesn't go down the tax amnesty and above all the blow on the connected criminal offenses (including money laundering), it is the Minister of Transport Danilo Toninelli who has taken it upon himself to make it clear that without a change the text would not have been voted by the M5S in parliament. “I'm interested in finding an agreement – declared Toninelli - . With so much effort and commitment, we wrote a government contract, which does not include amnesty for tax evaders or shields for those who have brought capital abroad and perhaps even criminals and mafia subjects". So, continued the minister, "I don't see the problem, you can't vote and I don't think the League can do it either, because it wasn't in the government contract it wrote with us or even in their program" .

But what will the League then ask to rewrite the law? There are three counterparts that Matteo Salvini is ready to bring to the majority summit: a sharp no to the building amnesty in Ischia, surprisingly inserted by Di Maio in the decree on the reconstruction of the Morandi Bridge in Genoa. “We too believe that some rules, such as the building amnesty for Ischia, are not a good thing. It's not a good sign,” Salvini clarified. And then: the territorial differentiation on the Motor TPL wanted by the grillini which reduces the tariffs in the South and unloads the compensation on the North. And again the chapter on legitimate defense: “Why did the 5Stelle present 81 amendments as if they were in opposition? Guys this is not how we work, this is not how we do it between allies ”, said Salvini.

PEACE OR TRUCE UNTIL THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITIES?

An agreement will be found, the government cannot risk jumping at this moment, it would not be convenient for either the M5S or the League. The government is in the sights of the European Union after the presentation of the draft deficit maneuver, the letter delivered by commissioner Moscovici to the government asking for explanations and changes which must arrive by Monday 22 October to the addressee. "Dialogue is essential, we all know that the issue is delicate, we have no interest in creating further tensions, the "ball" is now in the field of the Italian authorities who will respond to us by Monday". These are the words of Pierre Moscovici in the press conference at the end of his visit to Italy, underlining that "the Commission's decision will be based on the general interest, the mission of the EU commission is to ensure economic prosperity" to all States "and we remain faithful to this mission". From the European Commission "No decision has been taken, Minister Tria's response will be very important," he concluded.

Europe is therefore not willing to make discounts and the M5S and Lega will have to take this reality into account. But will it be true peace? It is reasonable to doubt it. At the first test, the contradictions between the Movement and the League emerged clearly and Matteo Salvini pushes his gaze to the European elections of May 2019. With the aim of overcoming the M5S and winning at least the appointment of a commissioner in the new Commission which will arise from the elections. And then deal on the basis of strength or break.
