The Premier assured that "there is room to change the rules on VAT numbers for the better", while on the Berlusconi-saving rule "we are evaluating, verifying, we will see whether to change it and how".

Taxman, Renzi: news coming on VAT numbers and the 3% standard

"In the delegated decrees on the tax authorities there is also space to change the rules on VAT numbers for the better, while we are evaluating, verifying the 3% rule, we will see whether to change it and how". The Prime Minister, Matteo Renzi, said it today to the microphones of Rtl 102,5.

“I hope we will be able to present the entire tax reform on February 20 – added the Premier -. When they say we are a country of tax evaders, I am indignant, because it is not true. But certain rules are needed: if you make a mistake in good faith, you shouldn't incur a penalty, as long as you pay double what you owe. If you evade taxes, I have to cut you off, but if you make a small, marginal mistake, I'll charge you double the fine. I don't close an eye, I widen it”.

VAT NUMBER

With the stability law, the regime that allowed VAT numbers up to the age of 35 to take advantage of a reduced tax rate of 5% ended. The threshold has been raised to 15% and the age limits cancelled. At the same time, the thresholds for accessing the scheme have dropped (between 15 and 40 thousand euros based on professions), while contributions to INPS have increased, which in 2015 will rise from 27 to 30%, in 2016 to 31%, in 2017 to 32% and finally in 2018 to 33%.

3% STANDARD

Article 19 of the legislative decree preliminarily approved by the Government last Christmas Eve provides for non-punishment for those who have evaded up to 3% of the declared income. The law, as it was written in the original version, would have extinguished the four-year prison sentence for tax fraud (of which three were pardoned) inflicted on Silvio Berlusconi in the context of the Mediaset TV rights trial. Furthermore, the leader of Forza Italia would have had his 6-year ineligibility canceled under the Severino law. These possibilities have already been ruled out by the Government.
