Taxman, Grilli: another 6 billion is needed to avoid the VAT increase in mid-2013

With the savings made from spending reviews, the Government has postponed the VAT increase from next October until mid 2013. Now the goal is definitively cancel the price increase of two points on the tax, but to do so we will have to find another 6 billion euros. The new Minister of the Economy explained it yesterday, Victor Grilli, on the sidelines of the work of the Finance and Budget commissions in the Senate.

"This Government has the desire to completely avoid the increase in VAT - said Grilli - because it is not useful for our economy to further raise taxes".

In any case, the minister specified that at the moment the Executive is busy with the measures already passed and is not yet preparing any decree to find the new necessary resources. Nor is it certain that sooner or later he will face it: "It is clear - concluded Grilli, in a hypothetical tone - that this government or another, if it could, would avoid the VAT increase".
