Tax authorities, ghost houses: there are more than 1,2 million and they are worth over half a billion

They are over a million and are worth more than half a billion euros. Mind-boggling numbers, but in line with the estimates, those published by the Revenue Agency at the end of the operation "Ghost houses”. According to the investigation by the tax authorities, Italian properties have so far been exempt from any taxation exceed 1,2 million units: 769 thousand with definitive annuity and 429 thousand with still presumed value (the definitive one will be attributed after a discussion with the owners).

Ghosts entering the Land Registry database after a longer-than-expected operation (in March 2012 it was expected to close by the summer). Only the newly registered properties have a value of approx 537 million euro. As regards the presumed annuities, the estimates speak of another 288 million. If the forecasts were confirmed, the Revenue Agency calculates that 589 million euros could flow into the state coffers.

The investigation took place in two-stroke. It began with an appeal to the owners, called to regularize the properties, and then continued with the official attribution of the rents to the properties that were still missing from the appeal. The second part of the operation was carried out by cross-referencing the cadastral maps with the aerial images provided by Agea, the agricultural disbursement agency.
