Flowers in art: social, political and cultural message

With the exhibition "DURCH DIE BLUME FLORALE METAMORPHOSEN" from 6 April to 21 July, Matthia Lobke, Kunstverein Heilbronn, Gabriele Sabbia and Sprengel Museum Hannover interpret the metamorphosis of the meaning of plants and flowers.

Flowers in art: social, political and cultural message

Flowers are natural and wonderful companions in all of our life situations. Whether it's love, sadness or joy, for all eventualities there is a plant that represents different feelings and meanings. Messages can also be transmitted through the flower. But there are also political, social and cultural areas, where flowers and plants are assigned different levels of meaning and are also used to convey messages.

Taryn Simon, for example, deals with flowers as silent witnesses and decorative details of political staging. The flower as a metaphor for erotic sensuality is shown by Nobuoyoshi Araki in his photographs. Masterfully painted, Maria Brunner's amaryllis is a sign of transience. Plants as motifs between figurativeness and abstraction are shown by Marta Guisande.

A testimony of human error and ecological disaster is the "Chernobyl Herbarium" by the French artist Anais Tondeur. Andreas Karl Schulze shows an abstract bouquet, and the classic portrait is Tobias Rehberger for vase bouquet. Natalie Czech introduces us to implement art criticism processes and Bas Jan Ader and the myth of Sisyphus, with a bouquet of flowers, has apparently rearranged a certain end.

Luc Tuymans he is represented with depictions of a flower pot with flowers, a lesser known motif in his work. Silke Wagner raises awareness with his project “Migration and Plant” for a look at the daily cooperation that has been functioning well for centuries.
