Finmeccanica: contract worth 874 million in Lima for Ansaldo Sts and Breda

News from Peru for Finmeccanica. Ansaldo Sts and Ansaldo Breda (the first 40% controlled, the second 100% owned by the defense group) have been awarded a contract worth a total of 1,2 billion dollars (874 million euros) for the 35-year concession of the line 2 of the Lima metro and a section of line 4. This was announced in a note explaining that Ansaldo Sts' share is around 510 million euros, while that of Breda is around 364 million euros.

The contract for the driverless metro consists of a 5-year concession that includes the design, construction and financing of the work, while the 30-year concession covers the operation and maintenance phase. The “Nuevo Metro de Lima” consortium that won the tender also includes Salini-Impregilo, Iridium Concesiones de Infrastructura, Vialia Sociedad Gestora de Concesiones de Infrastructura and Cosapi.

Ansaldo Sts and Ansaldo Breda are the two companies that Finmeccanica intends to deconsolidate from its business scope.

Ansaldo Sts will have the task of taking care of the design, supply and installation, testing and commissioning and integration of the various systems for the electromechanical works (signalling, power supply, telecommunications, dock doors, storage equipment, control, automatic ticketing and SCADA). The company will also participate in the operation and maintenance phase of the two lines for 30 years.

The solution that Ansaldo Sts will develop in Lima involves the use of CBTC signaling technology, the most sophisticated in the Mass Transit sector, with Unattended Train Operation (UTO) mode. AnsaldoBreda, on the other hand, will supply 42 modern underground trains 108 meters long, with high safety and comfort features, fully air-conditioned and equipped with latest generation passenger information systems and cameras for internal video surveillance.

“With this contract – declares Stefano Siragusa, CEO of Ansaldo Sts – we reach 250 km of fully automatic subways in the world and consolidate our presence in an important market such as Peru for a long time thanks also to the operation and maintenance part. This contract represents a great success and further confirms our ability to deliver projects in the Mass Transit market”.

The Italian companies of the consortium awarded the Lima Metro tender will be able to make use of the Italian export support system through the Cassa Depositi e Prestiti group.
