Finmeccanica signs an agreement with the unions to involve them in company strategies

A pact with the unions. A protocol for competitiveness signed with Fiom, Cgil, Fim-Cisl and Uilm-Uil. Finmeccatica designs a new model of industrial relations which looks to the German participatory system and no longer to the Anglo-Saxon model. “We have understood – said the CEO of Finmeccanica Alessandro Pansa – that the Anglo-Saxon model, which served only the interests of the shareholders and the financial markets, is no longer enough. We need a system that also protects the productive activity”.

The protocol aims to create a direct involvement of the unions in the knowledge and discussion on the group's tragic choices. It basically introduces three new features. First a Strategies Observatory which will be made up of the top management of Finemccanica and three delegated representatives of Fiom, Fim and Uilm and will meet twice a year. Then a National sector observatory which brings together, in addition to the top management of the group and union representatives, also the individual subsidiaries. Finally, the protocol also provides for a level of international comparison: trade unions will participate in in-depth sessions on transnational issues such as technological innovations and work organisation.

There are many expectations from the unions. The Cisl leader, Raffaele Bonanni, said that "his union intends to export this model to all the large Italian companies". For the FIM this system "is like a supervisory committee" (Marco Bentivogli). Giovanni Contento, of Uilm, said that it is "a new form of protection and support for corporate reorganisations".

The parties have committed to each other so that the application agreements arrive by July.
