Finmeccanica will build 160 helicopters for Rosneft

Agreement between the Russian oil giant Rosneft and the Anglo-Italian company AgustaWestland (Finmeccanica group). The new contract involves the construction of 160 AW 189 twin-engine helicopters, specialized in long-range offshore oil and gas operations. The aircraft will be assembled in Russia, despite the economic sanctions inflicted on Moscow by the EU and the US.

AgustaWestland will set up a partnership with the Russian manufacturer Rousskié Vertolioty, a subsidiary of the Rostec public holding, with the aim of producing this type of helicopter directly in Russia. Rosneft plans to acquire 160 of them by 2025.

Furthermore, AgustaWestland, Sikorsky and Airbus are the three companies competing in the tender called by the Polish Ministry of Defense for the supply of 70 multi-purpose military helicopters, estimated at around 2,5 billion euros. "Three companies have presented their offers", reads a note from the Warsaw ministry which lists the names of three bidders, specifying that the signing of the definitive contract should take place in the second half of 2015.

Finmeccanica's was the best stock in the main basket of Piazza Affari in 2014, posting a performance of +40,7% from the end of 2013 to today. At the end of a year in which the ftse Mib index rose by just 0,2% to 19.012 points.
