Avio will remain Italian and will be the cornerstone around which to build one of the most competitive European poles of advanced technology. To discover the cards was Alessandro Pansa, managing director of Finmeccanica, which holds 15% of Avio in its portfolio and can exercise the option to purchase the remaining 85% from the Cinven fund by the end of October.
"I am deeply convinced that keeping Avio spazio technology in Italy is an added value that should not be wasted", Pansa said during a hearing in Parliament. So far foreign offers have come from the French Safran and the Franco-German giant EADS.
By mid-morning, the Finmeccanica stock on the Stock Exchange was up 0,8%.
