Fincantieri-Finmeccanica: order worth 3,5 billion for the construction of 7 Navy units

Fincantieri-Finmeccanica: order worth 3,5 billion for the construction of 7 Navy units

The Navy fleet is renewed with Finmeccanica and Fincantieri. Confirmation of the order has arrived today which provides for the construction of six patrol vessels with an additional four as an option and a logistic support unit. The total cost of the fleet is around 3,5 billion euros.

In detail, a joint press release reports "the Occar (Organisation conjointe de cooperation sur l'armement, the international organization for armaments cooperation) has signed the order for the execution of the contract with the temporary grouping of companies set up between Fincantieri, agent, and Finmeccanica, through Selex ES, principal, for the construction of six patrol vessels with an additional four as an option and for a logistic support unit".

Of the 3,5 billion in value of the contracts for the fleet, Fincantieri's share is around 2,3 billion, that of Finmeccanica around 1,2 billion. The newly signed contract envisages various phases of progress of the works: today Occar has activated the first phase relating to the preparatory activities for the construction of the first offshore patrol vessel and the logistic support unit. The financial value of Phase 1 is equal to 372 million, of which Fincantieri's share is equal to 220 million and that of Finmeccanica is equal to 152 million.

In the coming months, the activation of the subsequent phases relating to the other units is expected. The multi-year program for the renewal of the Navy's fleet makes use of a total funding of 5,4 billion, and also provides for the construction of a transport and landing unit through the form of a public contract with the Defense Administration which is pending approval.

The prices of Fincantieri and Finmeccanica benefited this morning from the news of the new contract and are on their way to closing a brilliant session in Piazza Affari.
