Fincantieri builds 3 cruise ships for Virgin Cruises

Fincantieri will build three cruise ships for Virgin Cruises, a Virgin group company and new operator in the cruise sector. The two companies signed a binding letter of intent yesterday. “The finalization of the agreements – reads the note – is scheduled for the last quarter of this year”.

The new units will each have a gross tonnage of 110 tons and will be equipped with 1.430 cabins capable of accommodating over 2.800 passengers on board, assisted by a crew of 1.150. Delivery is scheduled for 2020, 2021 and 2022, respectively.

“This is a very exciting day for Virgin and for travelers around the world,” said Sir Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Group. "We have finally found the right partner to build ships that will forever redefine the cruising experience."

According to Fincantieri's managing director, Giuseppe Bono, “this choice will contribute to expanding the number of cruise passengers, considering that the sector still has ample room for growth. Our current workload allows us to make an important contribution to the recovery of the country and thanks to it, our workers and suppliers will be able to count with confidence on working continuity for a long period of time".
