Fincantieri, agreement with the US Navy: contract worth 15 million dollars

The US Navy awarded a Fincantieri, through its US subsidiary Marinette Marine, a 15 million dollar contract for the study and development of Fremm's own project aimed at the US Navy program Ffg(X), dedicated to future generation multi-purpose naval vessels.

The goal of the navy is to incentivize the industrial sector and to balance cost and capacity so as to reach the best possible compromise. In addition to Fincantieri, the US government has selected five other companies asking them to propose completed projects by next June 2019, to then proceed to the final choice. All contracts stipulated include the option to increase contracts up to the figure of 23 million dollars in the event of a "win".

The US Navy's requirement is 52 small surface vessels, most of which will be coastal combat vessels.

To make the Fremm version compliant with US design standards, Fincantieri collaborates with the Gibbs&Cox and Trident Maritime Systems groups. If awarded the tender, the all-American team would build the frigates at the Trieste group's US shipyards.

“It is an honor for us to see the Fremm model selected by the US Navy as a modern, technologically advanced project, a ship already in service and with high performance, which comes closest to the requirements of the new American program – commented Giuseppe good, CEO of Fincantieri -. We will continue our efforts to continue to play a role in supporting the US Navy in its strategy to develop small naval vessels, a key long-term goal not only for fleet renewal, but also for increasing the naval export capacity of the United States. United".

Fincantieri's presence in the US market is growing, supported by investments and acquisitions. Fincantieri Marinette Marine was set up by the group led by Bono in 2008 and over time it has also acquired other US shipyards, investing over 100 million dollars.
