Consumer confidence: Germany at the top since 2001, disappointing France

What fuels the optimism of German consumers, which has reached the levels of 2001, is above all the drop in the price of oil – the French figure, on the other hand, is stable (and worse than expected).

Consumer confidence: Germany at the top since 2001, disappointing France

German consumer confidence is back at the top, at the levels of 13 years ago, i.e. well before the crisis that undermined the economy and certainties in the Eurozone: the Gfk index should in fact grow to 9,3 points next February from 9 points in January. This is indicated by the estimates released today by the Nuremberg-based research group, which reveals that next month's index will reach its highest level since November 2001. German consumers are fueled by the prospects of the most large European economy, is the drop in the price of oil.

In France, on the other hand, consumer confidence was stable in January compared to December, according to data released by the national statistics office Insee. However, the analyst consensus estimate was higher. The index was 90 (analysts estimate 91), unchanged compared to December. Insee adds that the level is below the long-term average of 100.
