Fibra: a sticker will tell us how fast our connection is (really)

Agcom is about to publish a regulation that will require the various companies to affix a stamp that certifies the real quality of the connections offered. They will go from the green dot for the "Superfibra" to the purple dot for the Fixed Wireless - Here's the news

Fibra: a sticker will tell us how fast our connection is (really)

A speed sticker will tell us what the quality of our internet connection really is. No more miraculous recipes which, after the subscription, keep very little miraculous; no more absolute superlatives like “super”, “iper”, “ultra”, “stra” – fibre when then a simple test is enough to understand that the prefixes to be used should be very different.

Telephone companies will have to be careful what words they use to advertise their internet offerings, avoiding "misleading adverts" and promises they know they can't keep. This was decided by the Guarantor of Communications which will soon publish a new regulation containing much more stringent rules which will allow Italian users to know what is the real quality of the internet connection they have chosen for their home or office and will force companies to use appropriate terms. It already happens in France where we can speak of "fiber" only for the ftth, i.e. when the fiber optic cable arrives directly at the subscriber's home. In other cases it is necessary to use the definition of mixed network and specify where it arrives.

How to Franco Bassanini clarified to FIRSTonline, in an interview given in July, to date only Open Fiber reaches “homes and offices with 100% fibre, others stop at 30%. And it's not the same thing."

But let's go back to Agcom regulation. The speed of our internet network will be certified by the presence of a special sticker, the color of which will vary based on speed and stability that every company will be able to guarantee.

There will be five colors in all: green, blue, yellow, orange and purple. One can speak of fiber only in the presence of the green or blue mark. In detail, the green dot will indicate that the fiber optic cable reaches home or within the company that has contracted the subscription (in this case the superlative "superfiber" can also be used), the blue dot instead will give us that fast fiber cable runs right up to the building.

Il yellow dot will indicate that the fiber optic cable stops at the cabin on the street and therefore the customer will have a mixed position available. The orange stamp instead it will signal that the fiber link stops at the exchange, that violet that it is a “Fixed Wireless” connection.
