Ultra-fast fiber: Open Fiber connects Catanzaro

“All the more reason in these days of national emergency”, Open Fiber continues to activate ultra-fast fiber optic connections (FTTH) throughout Italy. The company jointly owned by Enel and Cdp writes it in a note, announcing that it has also entered the network Catanzaro. In the Calabrian capital there are more than 5 thousand real estate units already set up to navigate with a connection speed of up to 1 Gigabit per second. The ultra-broadband network "is currently available in large areas of the San Leonardo, Tribunal, Stadium, Hospital and Pontepiccolo districts", reads the note.

The goal of Open Fiber in Catanzaro is to achieve about 29 thousand units between homes, shops and offices included in the cabling plan, which provides for an investment equal to 10 million euro (funds that do not fall on public spending, not even in the municipal one) to spread around 17 thousand km of optical fiber.

The ultra-fast fiber, recalls the company led by Elisabetta Ripa, “it is a strategic asset for the growth of urban territories, as it develops connectivity and digital services, the main levers of productivity". The services enabled by ultra-broadband range from smartworking to the Internet of Things, via e-health, cloud computing, HD streaming, access to advanced Public Administration services and Smart City applications.

Building wiring is free and for the use of the condominium, "with the consequent advantages in terms of economic valuation of the property and commercial attractiveness guaranteed by the presence of ultra-broadband connectivity", the company specifies.

Open Fiber is an operator wholesale only, i.e. it does not sell services to the end customer, but only operates in the wholesale market, offering access to all interested operators: Fibra City, Sorgenia, Tiscali, Vodafone and WINDTRE it is the partner companies that are the first to commercialize services on the ultra-fast network created in the municipality of Catanzaro, but in the coming months other operators will begin to supply services using the infrastructure.
