Optical fiber, Open Fiber: reached 6,2 million homes so far

Open Fiber has so far connected to the optical fiber about 6,2 million real estate units, of which approx 1,6 million in Infratel areas. This is the updated data provided by the company, which explains how in market areas A and B marketing has been launched in 84 cities, a number that will amount to around 150 at the end of the year (the plan envisages a total of 271).

In the areas covered by the public tenders C and D from the end of 2018, however, a commercial trial was launched in four Municipalities, currently being extended to a further 70 Municipalities. In the areas covered by Infratel tenders, there are over 1.350 Municipalities where work is underway.

Open Fiber recalls that it has presented to Infratel the definitive projects for all the Municipalities subject to intervention and 1.651 executive projects (those needed to have the order to start the works). Of these, 1.559 were analyzed and approved by Infratel itself. The Municipalities completed to date are around 250 but the testing procedures provide for administrative steps for which the Municipalities that can be tested (i.e. in possession of a certificate of completion of works - CUIR) are 170.

The works for the Infratel network, Open Fiber recalls, began "only in mid-2018, after an avalanche of appeals and the definition of the tender rules, which only became binding at the end of December 2017, with tenders launched in the first days of January 2018. To date, all the parameters, including those for the reporting of EU funds, have been respected”.

"Despite the enormous complexity of the project, - finally underlines the company - the activities proceed quickly".

Lately, Open Fiber has cabled in Novara the 37 homes envisaged in the development plan, investing 16 million euros to build an entirely optical fiber network of approximately 180 km.
