Open Fiber optical fiber reaches Trapani

The last flag planted by Open Fiber is Trapani: optical fiber is now also available in the Sicilian city, which has already reached over 12 thousand real estate units, close to surfing the internet at a connection speed up to 1 Gigabit per second. In fact, a few months after the start of the construction sites, the marketing of ultra-fast fiber services was opened in various areas of the city, the first to be affected by the works that started last summer. Open Fiber's goal is to reach 23 homes, shops and offices included in the cabling plan in FTTH mode (Fiber To The Home, fiber to the house).

Thanks to a direct investment of about 8 million euros, Open Fiber in Trapani is therefore about to complete an ultra-broadband telecommunications infrastructure covering 126 kilometres: a new cutting-edge network capable of enabling a secure, ultra-fast and, as the company itself says, "future-proof ”. With the opening of marketability, Trapani reaches the other Sicilian cities already covered by Open Fiber with its own funds: Palermo, Catania, Messina, Agrigento, Bagheria, Caltanissetta, Gela, Ragusa, Syracuse and Vittoria.

Ultra-fast fiber optics, explains a note, "is a strategic asset for the growth of urban territories, as it develops connectivity and digital services, the main levers of productivity to face the economic and social challenges of today and the coming years". The services enabled by ultra broadband are in fact numerous and extend to areas such as smart working, distance learning, the Internet of Things, e-health, cloud computing, online streaming of HD content, access to advanced Public Administration services, Smart City applications such as sustainable mobility, electronic access control, environmental monitoring, public lighting and the digitization of tourism services.

“The centrality of the Open Fiber project for the digital development of Trapani – commented the councilor for public works Dario Safina – was very clear to us from the first contact with this entrepreneurial reality. The pandemic then did the rest, unexpectedly accelerating a change already underway that had become so essential. It is therefore essential that, a few months after the start of construction sites, a good portion of the population can already take advantage of cutting-edge digital services. As regards the Municipality of Trapani, exempt from any disbursement thanks to an entirely private investment project, we will continue to dialogue with Open Fiber to harmonize the intervention and minimize the inconvenience for the population. We are also certain that our fellow citizens will find patience but above all awareness: technology is a challenge that Trapani and the people of Trapani are overcoming for the good of the city”.
