Optical fiber, Open Fiber: the ultra-fast network is growing in Sicily

La ultrafast fiber di Open Fiber connect also Naro, in the province of Agrigento. The construction sites for the construction of the network have already started in the Sicilian municipality optical fiber which will guarantee fast connections for hundreds of homes, businesses and commercial activities. The new network in Naro will develop for a total of approximately 30 kilometers and will cover 119 real estate units, through the FTTH (Fiber-To-The-Home, the optical fiber extended inside buildings) capable of returning connection speeds of up to 10 Gigabits per second. The cable laying interventions involve the reuse of existing infrastructures. The allocated resources do not affect the municipal budget: the infrastructure is in fact financed with regional and state funds and will remain public property.

infratel Italy, the in-house company of the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy - as part of the Ultra-Broadband Plan (BUL) - has put out a tender for the creation and management of ultra-fast connections in the so-called white areas of the country, areas where no operator has expressed interest in investing. The work is being carried out by Open Fiber - winner of the three calls for tenders for the cabling plan which will affect around 6.200 municipalities in the 20 Italian regions - under the supervision of the Sicilian Region.

"A fiber optic network offers great opportunities for those who live, produce and invest in Naro," said the regional manager Roberto Renna. "Our goal is to reduce the digital divide in the internal areas of the country which have been suffering for years from the lack of an ultra-broadband infrastructure that will remain public property", added the field manager Calogero Licata.

Signed the agreement for the start of new works with funds from the PNRR

Meanwhile, the Municipality of Naro has signed the convention which fixes the times and methods of work for a new intervention that Open Fiber will launch in the coming months to connect other areas of the country to the infrastructure not covered by at least one network capable of providing download connection speeds equal to or greater than 300 Mbit/s , which largely coincide with the so-called gray areas. The project is envisaged by the "1 Giga Italy Plan", as part of the Italian Strategy for Ultra-Broadband financed with funds from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

The mayor sanctioned the agreement Maria Grazia Brandara and, for Open Fiber, the regional manager Renna, the field manager coordinator Daniele DiPietrantonio and Licata.
