Sparkle, an Italian telecommunications company controlled by Tim and which manages the Tier network, has entered into an agreement agreement with Telespazio a j between Leonardo (67%) and Thales (33%), global leader in space services.
Thanks to the agreement, the Scanzano Space Center will be connected to Sparkle's Sicily Hub in Palermo via its own fiber optic ring.
The Telespazio space centre
Il Scanzano space center, active since 1989 and located near the artificial lake of the same name about 47 kilometers from Palermo, is specialized in offering hosting and housing services for important international satellite operators that employ constellations in low Earth orbit (LEO), medium Earth orbit (MEO) and geostationary (GEO). Providing such services requires resilient and stable connections with high performance standards.
Thanks to the agreement with Sparkle
This latest generation data center is an important Internet hub in the Mediterranean, hosting content platforms and cloud applications from global players and connecting all international cables landing in Sicily. This connection allows the Space Center to offer its customers high-speed and reliable services around the world.
The importance of the Palermo Hub
The latest generation data center is a important Internet hub in the Mediterranean, hosting content platforms and cloud applications of global players and connecting all international cables that land in Sicily.
The new connection will allow the Space Center to offer its customers high-speed and reliable services around the world.
With the activation of new BlueMed submarine cable of Sparkle, which connects Italy with France, Greece and various Mediterranean countries up to Aqaba in Jordan, the Scanzano Space Center will benefit from connections at multiples of 100 or 400 Gbps to Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
In Italy, where the cable has been operational since September, BlueMed increases the resilience of the Sparkle network, providing a safe and diversified route between Sicily and Milan, with a latency reduced by 50% compared to the terrestrial backbones that connect the two capitals.
“With access to Sparkle's Sicily Hub the Scanzano Space Center consolidates and expands its connection capacity to the global network, allowing Telespazio to offer its customers connectivity services with increasingly higher speeds and high reliability. This is essential to promote the Scanzano Center as a satellite hub of the Mediterranean, enhancing its geographical position", he declared Alessandra Farese, responsible for Telespazio's Satellite Systems and Operations Business Line.
"We are very satisfied with this agreement with Telespazio, a company of international importance with which we share the mission of offering global services" and added: "This agreement is a new confirmation of how, also thanks to BlueMed, the Sicily Hub in Palermo is strengthening its success as a strategic asset for the digitalisation of the country and a fundamental hub for data traffic in the Mediterranean" he declared Enrico Bagnasco, CEO of Sparkle.
