FiberCop accelerate on fiber optics in Sardinia, enhancing the ultra-fast network to support economic development and digitalization, as part of the “Piano Italia 1 Giga” of the Pnrr. The company has already started works in 204 municipalities, connecting 156.234 civic numbers out of a total of 351.355 expected by June 2026, thus exceeding 44% of the overall target.

The investment in Sardinia is part of the Lot 1 of the “Piano Italia 1 Giga” tender, with a total value of over 500 million euro. This amount includes both the public contribution, thanks to the Pnrr funds, and the direct investment by FiberCop. The final goal is to bring ultra-fast connections to 1 Gbps in all 377 Sardinian municipalities, improving access to digital services for citizens, businesses and local administrations.

Impacts on the territory and the labor market

In Sardinia, FiberCop counts over 440 employees e 29 operational offices distributed across the territory. The work in progress involves approximately 1.000 workers from network companies who operate directly in the field. The region is home to more than 500 telephone exchanges that manage telephone and data connections for homes and businesses. This large-scale intervention will help strengthen Sardinia's digital infrastructure, creating new economic and professional opportunities.

FiberCop and the Italy 1 Giga Plan

FiberCop has been awarded 7 Lots of the “Piano Italia 1 Giga” tender, which covers 10 Italian regions, including Sardinia, and the autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano. By February 2025, the company has already achieved 53,4% ​​of its objectives, connecting 712.795 civic numbers out of a total of 1.334.545 expected by 2026, thus confirming its commitment to the digitalization of the country.

Development of ultra-broadband network on a national scale

FiberCop is also accelerating the Ftth network development (Fiber To The Home), which offers speed connection speed up to 10 Gigabit/s. This advanced technology will enable services such as 4K streaming, telemedicine, smart working and smart city solutions, which require high speed, low latency and a stable connection even with numerous devices connected simultaneously. Today, the company guarantees coverage of over 95% of active lines through FTTx technologies.
