Fiat will sell cars directly in Russia, Sollers hands over distribution

The Lingotto will restructure the Fiat dealer network in Russia and will deal directly with the sale of its own brand, no longer relying on Sollers. Fiat has in fact acquired from the Russian car manufacturer the right, starting from 1 January 2012, to sell cars of the Italian brand in the country. Up until a few months ago, negotiations were underway to create a joint venture between Sollers and Fiat, but talks broke down in mid-February. The Russian company then communicated its intention to start a partnership with Ford, while Lingotto has agreed with the government that it will continue to produce cars in the country. Fiat has also expressed its intention to make more substantial investments in Russia, where it is currently present with various partnerships but not with direct production.
