Fiat, profit grows more than expected +70%

Fiat Group results improved more than expected in first quarter 2012 – Profit reaches 866 million euros but excluding Chrysler Group revenues decreased by 5,7% due to lower volumes in Europe – A Piazza Business Fiat stock loses more than 4%.

Fiat, profit grows more than expected +70%

The first quarter of 2012 went better than expected for Lingotto which recorded a trading profit of 866 million euros, more than the 845 expected, and almost three and a half times the 251 million of 2011. Net income rose to 379 million (from 37 million) and industrial debt to 5,77 billion (from 5,53). Revenues more than doubled to 20,2 billion (from 9,21) and net industrial debt stood at 5,8 billion euros. Excluding Chrysler, turnover amounted to 8,7 billion (-5,7% due to the decline in volumes in Europe). Ebit grows to 895 million (291 million in March 2011).

Luxury and sports brands increased both trading profit (+14,5% to 71 million) either revenues (+11,5% to 700 million). Net financial charges amounted to 375 million. Excluding Chrysler, these amounted to €166 million, an increase of €43 million compared to the first quarter of 2011, however in line with the higher level of debt. Available liquidity improved and stood at 21,4 billion, of which 12 relating to Fiat excluding Chrysler. were issued during the quarter bonds for 1,2 billion which cover 80% of the amount of bonds maturing in 2012 relating to Fiat excluding Chrysler.

The good result "reflects the significant contribution of Chrysler", excluding which the financial statements would be "essentially in balance", reads a note from the Group. Despite the climate of uncertainty in the Eurozone, the company headed by Sergio Marchionne confirms its 2012 objectives. Forecasts for 2012 have been disseminated in terms of ranges of values, as if punctual they would be "not very reliable": turnover at 77 billion, trading profit between 3,8 and 4,5 billion, net profit at 1,2, 1,5-5,5 billion, net industrial debt between 6,0 and XNUMX billion.

In Piazza Affari, after the release of the data, the Fiat stock loses il 4,47% to 3,764 euros.
