Fiat postpones the relaunch of Alfa Romeo in the USA to 2014

Sled the raise of Alfa Romeo in the United States. According to what the Wall Street Journal writes today, the prolongation of the crisis has led the CEO of Fiat-Chrysler Sergio Marchionne to postpone until 2014 the operation, initially scheduled for the second half of 2012.

The US newspaper cites dealership sources who attended a private meeting in Las Vegas on the group's cost strategies and claims that Fiat intends to launch a two-seater sports car and a top-of-the-range sedan, the Giulia.

Marchionne wants to exploit the (predictable) success in the United States as a springboard to subsequently land in China and other emerging markets. The manager specified to the dealers that the future model will be equipped with an exclusive engine based on technologies from Maserati and Ferrari, the group's two luxury sports car brands.

The new Alfa Romeos will be distributed by Chrysler in the USA and sold by the Fiat chains owned by Chrysler. The first model will be produced in Italy, but the Giulia will be manufactured at Belvidere, a Chrysler site in Illinois.
