Fiat: SUV production to the United States, the city car at Mirafiori

Fiat would have planned to move the production of Jeep and Alfa Romeo SUVs from Mirafiori to the United States (280 vehicles starting from the fourth quarter of 2012). The Italian plant should instead be destined for the construction of a small city car. This is what the Bloomberg agency reports, citing sources close to the company. Lingotto did not comment on the news, while in recent days it had confirmed investments in Italy and announced that an assessment of the impact of the euro-dollar ratio on the production costs of SUVs is underway.

Today, Fiat shares are up in Piazza Affari: just before 16 pm, the Lingotto stock gained 3,13%. Meanwhile, the first meeting of Fiat and Chrysler managers will take place tomorrow in Turin, where the Mirafiori dossier will probably be discussed. On the trade union front, all the unions that signed the agreement of last December 23rd asked the company for a meeting to evaluate the future of the Turin plant.

The general secretary of Fiat, Susanna Camusso, speaking in Turin to a meeting of delegates in view of the strike of 6 September, instead asked for clarity on Fiat's real intentions. “We need to stop trusting phone calls, announcements and statements. If this government has a minimum of authority - Camusso said - it will do what it hasn't done in these two years and should have done: convene a table and clarify the investment plan for Mirafiori, Grugliasco, Pomigliano and for the whole country " .
