Fiat takes its stake in Chrysler to 58,5%, buying another 5% of the American group. "The acquisition of a further 5% of Chrysler represents a fundamental step towards the completion of the integration between our two groups" said the CEO of Fiat and Chrysler, Sergio Marchionne.
The news comes right on the day when the Detroit home sales were up 26% in 2011, surpassing Ford and General Motors and revealing itself as other side of the coin of the Fiat crisis (-13,8% in Europe).
“Achieving the Ecological Event – explains Marchionne – is a goal towards which we have worked intensely in the last two and a half years. We are particularly pleased to have achieved this, because it allows us to repay the trust placed in Fiat's ability to bring fuel-efficient cars and engines to the United States as well".
