Fiat cancels trade union agreements effective January 2012, XNUMX

Fiat Group Automobiles has canceled all “trade union agreements and any other commitment deriving from the collective practices in place" in the Italian car factories, guaranteeing its willingness to "promote meetings aimed at achieving equal and better agreements" with respect to those in force to date. It is when we read in a communication sent by the general management of Lingotto to the unions, that they were the first to spread the news.

The decision will be operational from January 2012, XNUMX, the same date on which the Turin company will definitively leave Confindustria and Federmeccanica. This is how the extension of the model company contract-Pomigliano (already in effect also at Mirafiori) to the rest of the Italian workers employed by Fiat.

The reaction was furious Fiom-Cgil, who through the mouth of his secretary, Maurizio Landini, announced “lawsuits and complaints. We will go ahead in any case to defend the interests of the workers", because "extending the Pomigliano agreement to all 72 workers of the Fiat group does not only mean extending a bad agreement, but also leads to changing the very nature of the union organization: yes it passes in fact to a phase of company and corporate union”.

The secretary general of the fismic (Autonomous union of metalworkers and related industries) Robert DiMaulo: “Fiat's decision highlights the need to break with any residual hesitation and implement the national contract for auto workers as soon as possible and in any case before December 31st. It was already a commitment, now it is urgent and pressing. The risk is that, in the absence of this agreement, the largest Italian company will proceed with a unilateral regulation which would be the real end of trade union relations in the country".

On October 25, various unions had expressed themselves in favor of a single company contract, agreeing on the "need to start a negotiating comparison for all workers of the Fiat group". The note was signed, at the end of a meeting with Sergio Marchionne, by representatives of Cisl, Uil, Fim, Uilm and Fismic. The only opposing acronyms were Fiom-Cgil and Ugl. For his part, the Italian-Canadian manager had "reaffirmed his commitment to continue investing in the Italian factories, confirming the full validity of the Fabbrica Italia industrial project".
