Fiat Chrysler relaunches Termoli: 500 million euros and 50 jobs for two new Alfa Romeo engines

The relaunch of the Fiat plant in Termoli begins on the thirtieth birthday of the historic Fire engine. Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has announced that the Termoli plant has been chosen for the production of two new engines for Alfa Romeo. For the relaunch of the Molise plant, FCA is ready to invest around 500 million euros and to hire 50 young people.

Marchionne's visit was an opportunity to celebrate the historic Fire engine produced in the Termoli plant and above all for the announcement of the new investment by Fiat Chrysler. “This high-tech project – explained the CEO to the workers – is an integral part of Alfa Romeo's bet. It was awarded to you precisely because of your technical skills. This is your opportunity to demonstrate to the world the level of technological know-how you are capable of achieving.”

Fiat Chrysler invests 500 million

It is certainly an important day for the Termoli plant. In fact, a new investment is on its way from Fiat Chrysler for the development of two production lines. According to Marchionne, an overall investment of at least 500 million euros will be required between the design, development and construction costs of the new engines.

Today, on the occasion of the announcement, the first machinery useful for the construction of new engines was positioned in the Termoli plant. According to Fiat Chrysler's forecasts, the works will be completed within six months, meanwhile training courses have been started for the Termoli workers.

50 assumptions

From Marchionne's visit there is also good news for young people from Molise. In fact, Fiat Chrysler will hire at least 50 young people for the Termoli plant. “The production start-up of the two new engines – explains the official FCA note – will make it possible to eliminate layoffs in Termoli where 2.400 people currently work. As a first important signal, 50 young people will be hired for strategic roles in the coming months, also linked to the need to start third shifts in some foreign exchange areas".

New engines for Alfa Romeo

Thanks to the new investment, Termoli's production capacity will be over 200 engines, almost half of the volume envisaged in the Alfa Romeo plan for 2018. In 2015, the Fiat Chrysler plant in Molise will begin production of two engines for Alfa Romeo, "fundamental for the relaunch of the brand on an international level” promises Marchionne. According to the first information provided by FCA, one engine will be a four-cylinder petrol engine with technologies and high power specifically developed for Alfa Romeo, while the second will be a six-cylinder derived from Ferrari.
