Festival Venezia, the real winner is Netflix. Golden Lion in Rome

The spotlights are turned off on the Venice Film Festival, 75th year. No prizes for Italian cinema present with over 20 films in the selection, three of which are competing for the Golden Lion – Capri Revolution of Martone, What to do when the world is on fire? by Minervini, Suspiria by Guadagnino – and came out of the event with a blank palmares.

Il Golden Lion for best film goes to: Roma by Alfonso Cuarón (Mexico), produced by Netflix, the giant of online streaming that has also become a major production company in cinema as well as TV series since 2014. The film will be seen on Netflix in December and, according to what is learned, will also be released in the same month in selected cinemas. Even the Coen brothers' film, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, which won the Best Screenplay award, is produced by Netflix. A "parallel" circuit, that of Netflix, is therefore leaving Venice, growing and strengthening in the face of a continuous reduction in visits to cinemas in crisis due to the decline in spectators.
