After the announcement in the last few weeks, the expected provision has arrived which finances the feasibility study and the planning for the reopening of the railway Rimini–San Marino, closed since 1944. Since then the Republic of San Marino no longer has any direct railway connection.

Il Ministry of Tourism, through its participation as an Institutional Member of the Italian State Railways Foundation, has defined "the payment of a capital contribution to be used for this purpose", explained the Group in a note. 

Thanks to the synergy between Ministry of Tourism and the Foundation Italian FS, continues the note, it will be possible to concretely proceed with the drafting of the reconstruction project of the disused and spectacular railway track once traveled by the unforgettable train white-blue.

Rimini-San Marino railway: origins and history of the stretch

La Rimini-San Marino railway, about 32 km long, 20 of which fall within Italian territory and the part uphill on the slopes of Mount Titano in the Republic of San Marino, was a narrow gauge line which guaranteed the direct connection between the two up to 1944. Inaugurated on June 12th 1932 on the impulse and project of the Italian Government, it gave a strong boost to the economy of the Republic, and in particular to tourism.  

It was badly damaged during the bombing of San Marino of 26 June 1944. There were many requests for restoration by the community, but the indecision of the competent administrations in the XNUMXs and XNUMXs in reactivating the work led to nothing, although the reactivation works would have been limited to a few buildings and a few kilometers of line, with substantially limited costs. The stretch Italian taste it was completely dismantled between 1958 and 1960. While the characteristic rolling stock was housed inside some tunnels arriving almost intact in the structures up to the present day.
