Ferrari under hacker attack: "We will not give in to ransom requests". Here is the note from Maranello

It's a difficult time at home Ferrari. After the non-exciting performances in the first two outings of the new Formula One world championship, the Maranello house is over under hacker attack.

In the late evening of March 20, Ferrari communicated in a note that he had suffered a attacco informatico with cybercriminals who managed to steal customer data. The hackers then demanded a ransom to prevent it from being posted online.

Ferrari will not accept any redemption requests

“No ransom demand will be accepted” was the company's response, specifying that “agreeing to such requests would fund criminal activity and allow threat authors to perpetuate their attacks. Ferrari, after having informed the competent authorities, has launched an investigation with a cybersecurity company to understand what happened. “Ferrari treats the issue of its customers' confidentiality very seriously and understands the importance of what happened,” reads the note, a sign of the company's transparency and willingness to promptly inform its customers. The position of firmness chosen by Ferrari was appreciated by the Stock Exchange where the shares of the car manufacturer are up to 246,90 euros (+1,23%).

It is not the first attack in Maranello

It is not the first time that Ferrari has been targeted by hackers. It was in October leaked the news (but denied by Maranello) that the company had been hit by a ransomware attack. The cybergang had declared the attack Ransom EXX with a post in which he claimed to have subtracted about 7gb between internal documents, datasheets, repair manuals and subsequently making them available on the internet.
