Ferrari Thoroughbred: "Don't call it an SUV". Here is the new 4-seater model for 390 thousand euros. Booking boom

The price is the lowest ever for a racing car from Maranello – Ferrari Purosangue “is not an SUV”, the company explains: design and performance are worthy of a supercar. And it flies on the stock market

Ferrari Thoroughbred: "Don't call it an SUV". Here is the new 4-seater model for 390 thousand euros. Booking boom

There is no inflation or energy crisis that holds: Ferrari Thoroughbred causes the stock on the Maranello Stock Exchange to jump by more than 200 euros, with an increase of 2,0%. Meanwhile, the first lucky (and privileged) queue up to try, between now and Saturday, the latest jewel of the Prancing Horse presented on Tuesday evening at the Teatro del Silenzio in Lajatico (Pisa). They're already flocking reservations, more than 2, awaiting the first deliveries, expected in the spring. Potential customers who improvidently talk about the "Ferrari SUV" will be strictly excluded. A real blasphemy for the CEO Benedetto Vigna, who immediately underlined that "this is not an SUV, but a real Ferrari”, which lived up to the promise of Sergio Marchionne: “We will never make an SUV. You will have to pass over my corpse."

Ferrari Purosangue, lowest price ever

The result, after years of work and quite a few discarded concept cars, is a sports car that is truly different from the competition, even for the price: 390 euros on the road, lowest price ever to buy a racing car from the team founded by Drake, but much more than Porsche's German competitors, which is currently completing the book in view of the IPO (85 billion euro valuation) at the end of the month. The new Ferrari is not afraid of confrontation, neither on the Stock Exchange (the price/earnings ratio has risen more than 40 times) nor, judging by the first indications, in terms of performance or design, absolutely different from what the competition offers both in Europe and in the USA or in Asia.

Ferrari Thoroughbred: Supercar design, not a tank

Of course, the dimensions are from supercars (five meters by two in size, height just under one meter and sixty) but the effect is very different compared to the mastodons fielded by the competition, from Porsche to Lamborghini itself. The Thoroughbred line evokes the thrill of super performance, without conceding anything to the "tank" effect. Something completely different, proudly reads the note from Maranello, "compared to common modern granturismo (so-called crossovers and SUVs)". This applies to the position of the engine, an aspirated V 12, which guarantees the best grip as well as to performance and comfort. Thanks also to the active suspension system capable of regulating load transfer and roll when cornering, as well as the contact between wheels and ground, capable of allowing "performance and driving feeling comparable to the other Maranello sports cars". Not cheap for a car that offers four comfortable seats for adults and an adequate trunk for a long journey. Enlivened by typical rumble of the Red: “The sonority is typically Ferrari – we read – with the unmistakable harmony of the orders of the V12 which gently accompanies the driver until he accelerates decisively: it is then that the 8250 rpm. they sing an enthralling crescendo of chords to achieve the brilliance at high revs that only the Prancing Horse engines can guarantee”.

Traditional engine: neither hybrid nor electric

In short, an announced success, to the point that, in order to hold on to the charge of the rich who want to emulate the super-billionaires, Ferrari has set a precise limit for itself: Purosangue sales will not be able to exceed 20% of the overall production of the Maranello plant, which will remain focused on the richest models and profitable special series. Innovate, therefore, but with prudence. Beyond the technical characteristics (on the site you can find an extremely detailed analysis of the solutions adopted), it is worth emphasizing that, as the marketing manager Enrico Galliera admits, “there was a long discussion about which type of engine to mount on the Purosangue”. In short, it could have been the first hybrid (or electric) Ferrari, but it was preferred to offer a “traditional” product of excellence, taking advantage of the derogation provided for the products of the "Emilia Valley".

Electric Ferrari only in 2026

In short, the important thing is not so much to run, with the risk of compromising the image of excellence achieved over time. If anything, the goal is to expand (with prudence) the market space while waiting for the big one electric leap planned for 2026. A great leap into the future of 4,4 billion euros, as many as foreseen by the investment plan entrusted to Vigna, ex STM, who has behind him the evolution of MEMS memories now adopted by the iPhone and Nintendo consoles.
