Ferrari: Binotto has resigned, the French Vasseur on pole for the role of team principal

After weeks of speculation, controversy and denials, the official announcement has arrived: Mattia Binotto has resigned. The Team Principal of the Ferrari team will leave his role from next December 31st. The Maranello house communicates it through a note.

Ferrari, Binotto: "I'm leaving a company I love"

Mattia Binotto said: “With the regret that this entails, I have decided to end my collaboration with Ferrari. I'm leaving a company I love, of which I have been a member for 28 years, with the serenity that comes from the belief that I have made every effort to achieve the objectives set. I leave a united and growing team. A strong team, ready, I'm sure, to achieve the highest goals, to which I wish all the best for the future. I think it is right to take this step, although it was a difficult decision for me. I thank all the people of the Gestione Sportiva who have shared this journey with me, made up of difficulties, but also of great satisfactions.”

“I would like to thank Mattia for his numerous and fundamental contributions to the 28 years spent in Ferrari, and in particular for his driving which led the team to be competitive again last season. Thanks to this, we are in a strong position to renew our commitment, first and foremost to our incredible fans around the world, to win the most important trophy in motorsport. All of us at the Scuderia and in the wider Ferrari community wish Mattia all the best for the future."

Ferrari: Vasseur on pole for the role of team principal

At the basis of the farewell there would be the numerous strategy errors which penalized Ferrari's season. Finally back competitive after years spent in the rear, the team lost its way, making glaring mistakes that handed the victory into the hands of the Red Bull and left a bad taste in the mouth of the fans. The rumors also speak of increasingly cold relationships with Charles Leclerc, main driver of Ferrari.

The process to identify the new Team Principal of Scuderia Ferrari begins now, and should end in the new year. According to rumors, in pole there would be the fFrench Frederic Vasseur, current head of theAlfa Romeo Sauber, already tested last summer when the top management of the Prancing Horse were evaluating an alternative to Binotto. In this context, it should be remembered that Leclerc made his F1 debut at Sauber, under the management of Vasseur.
