Fed, Yellen: rate hike within the year

It's not an official announcement yet, but something very similar. Janet Yellen, head of the Federal Reserve, reiterated today that within the year the US central bank could decide to raise interest rates.

“The performance of the economy can probably justify a rate hike later in the year,” Yellen said. It would be the first monetary tightening since 2006.

The central banker justifies this choice by emphasizing that US inflation is destined "to return towards 2% as the transitory factors will dissipate and the labor market will continue to progress".
