Fed, Powell: "Italy is a risk for everyone"

"Italy is a possible source of risk, one of those that could trigger tensions at any moment". In his speech on Wednesday at the Economic Club of New York, the number one of the Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell, dedicated a few, worried words to the confrontation, for now without outlets, between the Italian government and the European Commission. The positions remain very distant if not antithetical.

Deputy Prime Minister Luigi Di Maio reaffirmed his willingness to dialogue with Brussels "but without betraying his promises, otherwise we would be like everyone else". For his part, Economy Minister Giovanni Tria reiterated that the government is "carefully" evaluating whether it is possible to find "financial space" that would allow it to reduce the deficit, indicated in 2019 at 2,4% of GDP, without compromising the need to support growth. But the margins, as EU vice president Valdis Dombrovskis warned, are very narrow.

According to Die Handelsblatt, the Commission intends to initiate sanctions proceedings against Italy at its meeting on 19 December. Hence a climate of precarious truce for both stock lists and bonds, pending the Buenos Aires summit.

  1. IN ADDITION TO KNOWING ENGLISH, YOU MUST ALSO UNDERSTAND ITALIAN. In the article, beyond the necessarily synthetic titles, reference is made very clearly to the concern expressed by Powell, on the negotiation between the EU and Italy on the maneuver which for now has not had any concrete results.

  2. I think you have some problems with English. Powell didn't say that Italy is a risk for everyone: he said that the dispute between Italy and the European Commission is a risk factor for other economies, and if you don't see the difference between this and what you wrote then book a visit a good ophthalmologist. There is already enough slob journalism and we do not feel the need to increase it every day!
